We have made a change to the way that people view pages, when being sent from a Twitter link. If you add a Post via localFaces, and send the post as a Tweet, then the link will lead back to your post on localFaces – which is great if your post is more than the number of characters that you are allowed to Tweet.

However, if the visitor is not a localFaces member, they will be sent to your Profile page. If they choose to log in or sign up, then they will be able to view your post in full.

The issue with Twitter is now fixed up – at least on localFaces.

Previously, when you visited a page, we looked to see how long it was since we had checked for new Tweets on Twitter. If it had been more than a few minutes, we checked for new messages. One update means that the Tweets are available for everyone. But it slowed down whoever was loading a page (and the updates). And if Twitter was down, the delay could be a minute or two, which seems like a lifetime when you are waiting for a page to load.

We now have a completely separate system to check for Tweets automatically, which runs direct from the server, so there are now no delays to site visitors – all the delays are on the update system, you won’t see them.

As you know, Twitter has a lot of time where their sites are not available. So sometimes, we have to disconnect localFaces from Twitter. When that happens, your details and posts are saved, and will be visible at all times.

If we have to disconnect from Twitter, the checkbox below your post will disappear. If it’s important to get your message on to Twitter, then you should try again later.

Continuously trying to connect to Twitters site when it is not available simply slows localFaces down (and slows anyone else trying to use it), so it’s best if we just disconnect until they come back online.
